Review: October 6 at Tosung Korean Charcoal BBQ

BBC Canberra Chapter had yet another happy ‘meating’ at Tosung Korean Charcoal BBQ.

20 of us sat around the fire and started grilling assorted wagyu cuts and later eased into Korean beef ribs ‘galbi‘, while a variety of reds found their way around the table. Some preferred lightly-salted wagyu cuts, while others preferred galbi with a touch of sweetness. Kimchi pancake was served as desert at the courtesy of Tosung. We even managed to complement the desert with a round of Korean rice wine ‘makgeolli‘.

Those who were ‘inducted’ into Korean BBQ during the evening said they are definitely coming back for more. Some experienced connoisseurs showed off their skills and grilled kimchi alongside the meat, impressing Tosung’s manager. One person, whose name shall remain anonymous, made it obvious that he has a borderline addiction to kimchi…, but he made it clear that it’s not a sign of him turning vegetarian.

As for the quiz, a veteran Geoff Miles won the friendly competition with a whopping score of 10/10 and a newcomer Peter Woulfe made the runner-up with an impressive score of 9/10.

Before the night ended, six new members were welcomed into the Canberra Chapter by successfully delivering their speeches with a help of alcohol in their system.

A big shout-out to Ron “the wine keeper” Moss for doing an exceptional job handpicking a wild mix of reds for the evening.

Special thanks to Tosung for generous portion of meat, the desert and their attentive service.

Finally, we are looking forward to be left at the mercy and hubris of Lygie Esquirol and James Schofield couple for our November ‘meating’.
