On Thursday 7 April, the Aurora Chapter of the Beef and Burgundy Club ventured into the western suburbs and attended the Grove Establishment for an evening of fine wine, better steak and constitutional correctness under the guidance and direction of Jamie Kerr (Beef Master) and Phil Johnson (Wine Keeper).

Despite a minor organisational issue in the acceptance of payments, the evening saw 15 members attend to be served a Wagyu rump steak, accompanied by a 2014 Cab Sav from the Margaret River region, which was specially sourced for the club by John, the Grove’s restaurant manager.  Members’ reviews of the food and wine were universally positive, and the unique taste of Wagyu was noted as a distinct feature of the dining experience.  All of the many steak cooking talents of the kitchen staff were on show, and no one was disappointed.

The club was looked after in magnificent style by the staff at the Grove Establishment, who were highly attentive and ensured that no member was left with an empty glass or an uncleaned plate for more than a moment.

James Crouch scooped the pool on the quiz, demonstrating the exceptional knowledge of the constitution that one would expect of a senior member of the BBC.  However, quiz scores were rendered difficult to understand due to attending members’ inability to divide by the appropriate integer to normalise the score for compliance with BBC scoring models.  In hindsight, the maths should have been done pre-service of wine.

The BBC leaves the Grove Establishment highly satisfied and well looked after.  May’s BBC will have high standards to live up to.
